New contribution to Totally Novel on writing, update on Sweet Sixteen Killer

Image
I've been pretty quiet lately on the blog, sorry about that. I've been laying mostly low, though I did recently begin contributing to a new website for writers and readers called Totally Novel. My first contribution for members of the site is a post I titled 3 things that prevented me from writing a novel. To read the post, sign up for a free trial. Take a look around and if you don't wanna stay, don't renew membership. That said, it's a pretty cool effort being put together by a former Google+ member like myself. As a matter of fact there are several members on the site from the old Google+ days. (Side note: there is a free membership option)
I will be contributing to the Totally Novel blog bi-monthly for now. My next addition will be in August. I'm super excited for the site and I hope you can come join us and become a part of the groups, forums, blog, workshops, and more.
All that said, I haven't given up here. This is still my primary site and blog. 👊

The cult of ____.

I was doing some research on religious cults, and I wanted to start simple by researching and getting a good grasp on a common and expert definition of a religious cult. I also wanted to read personal accounts from those who had left a cult. Imagine then my shock and horror as it became frustratingly difficult to find such good information on the web.

Why?

Pound me the witch drums

There’s been some murmuring that witches are putting hexes on Trump and stuff. So, um, pound me the witch drums, I say.

Jason X

Image
So I've never been a big Jason Voorhees fan, so naturally I had no desire to watch Jason X. But the other day, I saw it in Netflix and the description started off with, "In the year 2455," and I knew it was gonna be a hot mess. So naturally, I had to watch it.

I can confirm. It's a hot mess.

Why am I here?

What's your 2019 writing plans?

Hey fellow writer types... do you have any big, lofty goals for 2019? If not, you probably should. In the very least, plan to keep at it.

But I really wanna hear what you have planned. And how you plan to accomplish those goals. So sound off in the comments. Maybe we can all learn a little something from each other's lofty goals and how to achieve them.

The Inner-Voice Lies

QUESTION: Name one thing you have lied to yourself about. Why did you do this?I suffer with bipolar and anxiety, I lie to myself all the time. I lie about big things, like about whether I'm worth anything. I also lie to myself about trivial things; like about how grievous it is to make my own sandwich verses buying one, or how taking a shower and shaving is a long and tedious task, and I don't have time to do such things. It's not easy, but it is super important that no matter how many lies our inner-voice tells us, we use another inner-voice to shout they are not true. It's important to remind ourselves to be in denial of the lies. Otherwise we will let our lies consume our every waking thoughts and lives.
We are worth a damn, it's easy to make a sandwich, and we feel better when we look our best. Lies were created to hurt, truth uplifts and breaks chains. Now it's your turn. Answer the question in the comments below.

Building your author platform

This is a really good, simple approach to building your author platform. Something I myself am having to rethink and start over at doing, because mine was on Google+. Please read the full post, it's solid and short and sweet.
