New contribution to Totally Novel on writing, update on Sweet Sixteen Killer

I've been pretty quiet lately on the blog, sorry about that. I've been laying mostly low, though I did recently begin contributing to a new website for writers and readers called Totally Novel. My first contribution for members of the site is a post I titled 3 things that prevented me from writing a novel. To read the post, sign up for a free trial. Take a look around and if you don't wanna stay, don't renew membership. That said, it's a pretty cool effort being put together by a former Google+ member like myself. As a matter of fact there are several members on the site from the old Google+ days. (Side note: there is a free membership option)
I will be contributing to the Totally Novel blog bi-monthly for now. My next addition will be in August. I'm super excited for the site and I hope you can come join us and become a part of the groups, forums, blog, workshops, and more.
All that said, I haven't given up here. This is still my primary site and blog. 👊

Carnival of Souls

Carnival of Souls

I'd put off watching the widely regarded cult classic Carnival of Souls for years. No reason. Just never got to it. Finally, this week, I decided it was time. I had purposefully avoided learning much about it, so I could just soak it in on my first viewing.

And that I did.

Its got some weird quirks to it, like super laughable moments and silly ideas about introversion or anyone who doesn't do exactly as you'd expect them. And women. Because of this, I ended up loving the heroine and hating everyone around her. But the story itself is solid with a satisfying and original concept.

Lots could be said in this space about it. But as someone who loves old movies, especially indie or low budget ones that shoot on location, this was fun. This movie was filmed on location in Kansas and Utah. Nothing like seeing these old towns and cities come alive.

If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend it. It's fun.

And for the agent of the lead actress who dropped her after watching the movie, I hope they lived long enough to see it become a classic and loved by many.
